Hi Matthew! You are so right. That tactic is overplayed and manipulative… even though it masquerading as seeking consent.

This is a great example of how things get so tricky. Clearly, this tactic is a thinly veiled pitch. But there are plenty of times when asking someone if they’d like to be coached could come with the best of intentions and no explicit desire to make a pitch.

We all need to manage our motivations. I don’t think there’s anything wrong with showing up and being useful because it’s good for your business. But there’s a difference between being useful because it’s good for business and being useful because you're trolling for a sale.
